A Different Room

It’s an old line: “When you’re the smartest person in the room, find a different room.”

I get it. You can learn a lot from people who know more than you about the work. But let’s think a little deeper about this.

Yes, when you work with folks who’re better than you at something, they can bring your game up. And the reverse is scary: the notion that working with people who’re less good than you might bring your game down.

But also: When you work with people who are not as good as you, maybe you’ll bring them up. And when you work with people who’re better than you, maybe you’ll bring them down.
